Feathers from my Nest
Broadman and Holman, Nashville, Tennessee, 2001; pp.214, hardcover
By Beth Moore
Beth Moore’s book, Feathers From My Nest, is subtitled “A Mother’s Reflections”. Beth uses items left by her daughters after leaving for college, to reflect on spiritual and practical wisdom learned through the years. With great candor and humor Beth presents a delightful collection of vignettes about her family. Old binders, index cards, crumpled Kleenex and used cassette tapes are some of the items that inspire the lesson of letting go of our kids, being authentic, keeping a sense of humor and appreciating the church. Beth’s conversational style shares spiritual insight and appropriate Scriptures that challenge the reader to live life wisely and invest well in family during those developmental years.
I underlined these sentences from her book: “Children are very perceptive. They can sense in us our affection or lack of affection for God. They will base much of their own choice to accept or reject a relationship with God on what they perceive in our hearts and attitudes, not just our words. They are reaching deep inside us with the hands of their minds trying to grasp how we feel about Him.”
