YOU: The Owner’s Manual; An Insider’s Guide to the Body That Will Make You Healthier and Younger

By Michael F. Roizen, M.D. and Mehmet C. Oz, M.D. (HarperResource, 400 pages, hardcover).

This New York Times bestseller is an easy-to-read and informative guide to understanding one’s body. It explains the function, purpose and action that will prevent illness and promote health. "You control more than 70 percent of how well and how long you live," was certainly an attention-getting statement to me.

YOU: The Owner’s Manual describes in clear and humorous ways the function of the heart, the brain, the bones and muscles, the lungs, the immune system and your gland system. Included are exercise tips, nutritional guidelines and simple lifestyle changes.

Marcia Graham, M.D. who has written an article for this issue, references this book. In checking to see if a copy was available in our local library, I discovered that there were 61 “holds” on the seven copies in the local library. After reading the book I can see why there is so much interest in a book designed to help one understand the body, giving practical and specific instructions on how to take care of it.
